What’s a planner to do? When it comes time to start planning a meeting in a city you know very little or nothing about. And your list of service providers, while extensive, doesn’t include this year’s location. Immediately thoughts and concerns go to finding the just right venues, caterers, entertainment, decor and what about the best restaurants and transportation companies to ensure the meeting goes off without a hitch.
Why not give yourself a break and work with a Destination Management Company. Before I go any further in an effort for full disclosure I have not only been in charge of operations at a local DMC I have hired them in various cities many a time with very positive results. A Destination Management Company or DMC is an organization with years and years of planning experience who are the experts in a specific city specializing in the arranging and logistical planning for all sorts of events, meetings, conferences and social functions. Not only do they come to the table with a wealth of knowledge and creativity, they have a long standing relationship with the city as well as the local service providers.
Using a Destination Management Company
The know-how of a DMC extends well beyond the knowledge, resources and skill it takes to design and arrange successful functions. They literally become one with their client’s objectives and goals and a great, really great DMC will do whatever and I do mean whatever (within reason) it takes to get the job done. And the right DMC will take on as much or as little as a client requires.
A qualified and experienced full service destination management company’s forte also includes not only the coordination of all things events and meetings but professionalism, honesty, reliability flexibility and the ability to always, always think outside the box.
Destination Management Company One Big Happy Family!
Gone are the days of the money grows on trees, spend what you want big budgets. Amongst other things, a DMC is there to not only match the client’s expectations but to surpass them while providing a value added experience. Really isn’t it all about saving the client time and money and in turn providing as much of a stress free situation as possible. Really there is no meeting planner I know that can or will take it easy, relax and have a drink during their event. But working with a good DMC does allow for a just slightly less tense and nerve racking time.
In the best possible of scenarios a DMC becomes an extension of the organization that hires them. You may not see them, but they are there behind the scenes making sure everything is executed smoothly and successfully. In a perfect world, everyone does become one big happy family. One of my closest friends now is a client I worked closely with on a DMC program about ten years ago. In addition to my DMC responsibilities I can recall personally planting a garden, laying a new dance floor, decorating a client’s home, taking care of a customer’s shopping and so much more all complimentary in the name of business.
Simply said each client comes with their own unique wants and needs. Working with a DMC can be the first step to success. But before putting pen to paper do the work and research, research, research. Find the company that is best suited for your needs. A DMC will always do their best to provide extraordinary and custom designed solutions while meeting a client’s objective and goals.
