Ask the Expert – The Importance of Staffing an Event
How important does the group think staffing an event is?
Success has EVERYTHING to do with the right staff for an event. When it comes to staffing an event it’s often ignored or skipped until the very last minute. And by leaving it to the end you may be setting yourself and your event up for failure. When on the job event staff is part of your brand. And because of that, they are in part responsible to help shape and encourage client relationships. Success is often contingent on how event staff work together, intermingle and connect with customers. And in the end isn’t that what it’s all about. Having said that, who should run your booth or work your event is of the most importance. And while no two events are alike it’s imperative to ensure you select the right staff as well the amount of staff you’ll need. To ensure you find the right people for your event; start the hiring, confirming or scheduling process early. Any staff representing your organization must understand who the company is, the reason for the event and must be trained. Starting the process early allows for all of that and more.
Ask the Expert – Tips for Staffing an Event
Any tips for finding the right people?
To attract the right kind of people it is important to produce a well-defined job description. One that outlines the job responsibilities, dress code and the organizations expectations. Communication is key. When interviewing be honest and open about what you and the company foresee and expect from the on-site staff. Above all you want your staff to be able to function on-site without having to hold their hands. Enable your team so they are able to answer questions and do their job. Always provide as much information about the company, the client and what your people will be doing. Keep in mind your staff are one of the more crucial elements when it comes to event success. Allow enough time to find, interview, hire and train.
