I\u2019ve been in the conference and convention planning business for well over 20 years (that\u2019s a whole other story). Many of my friends assume that meeting planners and industry suppliers have a lot of down time over the holidays.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Wouldn\u2019t that be nice!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, the truth is that when there is a perceived \u201cquiet time\u201d for meeting and events, that\u2019s usually when planners are busy working on proposals, closing files and, you guessed it, attending planning conferences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Planning_Conferences_Increase_during_Industry_Downtimes\"><\/span>Planning Conferences Increase during Industry Downtimes<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The holidays can actually be a very busy time for meeting planners.&nbsp; It\u201ds just that you\u2019re not necessarily seeing them execute programs. But they are busy.&nbsp; And really, isn\u2019t the best time for a meeting planner to attend a conference when their clients are not meeting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That\u2019s why our industry\u2019s top associations hold their planning conferences during the, so-called, shoulder months. And it makes good business sense; attendance is higher and convention center rates are lower. Meeting Planners, for the most part, are able to concentrate on the conference\u2019s programs, many continuing their career development, without being interrupted with their own business\u2019s demands.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20201024235126im_\/http:\/\/mastertheevent.com\/images\/2012\/12\/PCMA-conference-20131.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-8483\" title=\"PCMA conference 2013\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Professional Convention Management Association (PCMA)\u2019s<\/strong>&nbsp;annual conference is held in January. The next one is in Orlando, hosted at the<a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20201024235126\/http:\/\/mastertheevent.com\/orlandos-convention-center-getting-down-to-business-in-americas-playground\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">&nbsp;Orange County Convention Centre<\/a>, from January 13-16, 2013.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20201024235126im_\/http:\/\/mastertheevent.com\/images\/2012\/12\/MPI.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-8484\" title=\"MPI\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Meeting Professionals International (MPI)<\/strong>&nbsp;will be hosting their annual European Meeting &amp; Events Conference from January 29-31, 2013 in Budapest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20201024235126im_\/http:\/\/mastertheevent.com\/images\/2012\/12\/ADMEI.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-8485\" title=\"ADMEI\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The&nbsp;<strong>Association of Destination Management Executives International (ADMEI)<\/strong>, one of the top industry supplier associations, is hosting their annual conference in Montreal, Canada from February 7-9, 2013.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Conference_Facilities_and_Host_Cities_Benefit_with_Industry_Planning_Conferences\"><\/span>Conference Facilities and Host Cities Benefit with Industry Planning Conferences<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>What would normally be a slow period for many convention cities can become quite lucrative for cities that host meeting planning conventions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"So_while_the_conference_and_convention_industrys_meetings_may_be_slower_over_the_holidays_and_new_year_meeting_planners_and_industry_suppliers_are_busy_attending_their_own_planning_conference_In_addition_to_networking_with_industry_colleagues_these_conferences_are_also_an_excellent_way_for_individuals_to_continue_their_growth_through_education\"><\/span>So, while the conference and convention industry\u2019s meetings may be slower over the holidays and new year, meeting planners and industry suppliers are busy attending their own planning conference.
