Sustainability jobs are fast becoming hot, sought-after, positions. Our industry, the meetings and events industry, has been a leader in sustainability for some time now. Even when it wasn’t cool to be sustainable, our industry was busy setting green standards. Thankfully our industry leaders shut out all the clatter from climate change deniers and, instead, focused on ways that companies could make profits while being green stewards of our planet.
There Are Many Sectors within Our Industry with Sustainability Jobs
Sustainable event planning has been around for some time. Within our industry, there are plenty of groups where you can find sustainable jobs. A few of the main sectors where green jobs are plentiful include:
Green Hotels– for some time now, hotels have been at the forefront of sustainability. We’ve all seen the signs in hotel washrooms regarding how to reuse our towels. And that was just the beginning.
Convention and Visitors Bureaus– for anyone involved in sustainable event planning, a Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) is a place where you can get a green meetings toolkit as well as recommendations on vendors and suppliers that can accommodate green meetings.
Meeting and Event Venues– many now go out of their way to promote the fact that their venues meet sustainability guidelines. From energy savings, to sustainable local food, meeting and event venues are fully equipped to assist with green meeting planning.
Transportation – it’s nice to see that new airplanes are being built with sustainability in mind. Both Boeing and Airbus’s newest additions center around fuel efficiencies. The same is being said with ground transportation. More and more we are seeing hybrid vehicles enter into many fleets.
