The world’s top airline companies for 2014.
For those that are in the meetings and events industry flying is just a part of the job. So it’s pretty safe to say that service ranking of airlines is something that a meeting planner pays attention to.
Skytrax, a privately owned UK company that specializes in research for the airline industry, has released the World Airline Awards for 2014. Skytrax surveyed about 19 million passengers, both business and leisure, around the world.
The Top 10 Airlines in North America
For North America, the #1 and #2 spots go to Canadian carriers: Air Canada and WestJet respectively. Virgin America was the top carrier in the US, coming in at #3.
That’s the good news.
The bad news is that the top airline in North America, Air Canada, ranked 24th overall in the world. Virgin America, the top US airline, ranked 46th in the world. Certainly not the best showing for North American carriers.

- United Airlines
- Porter Airlines
- jetBlue Airways
- Alaska Airlines
- Southwest Airlines

The Top 10 Airlines in the World
The interesting take away from the top 10 in the world for 2014 is that 9 of the 10 are from Asia. The #10 spot is awarded to Lufthansa, from Germany.
