Vacation Days! That long awaited time far, far away from the realities and challenges of life and work. Do you take all your vacation days? If you answered no, you’re not alone. So many Americans in fact do not take the vacation days they are due. If you are the kind that brings on the guilt when it comes to taking time off. Stop it right now. Whatever the reason. Finances, time or even that dreaded guilt. It has been proven that taking vacation time is vital for good health.
Why aren’t you Taking Vacation Days?
There are so many reasons why we don’t totally use up our vacation days. I know for years I let the majority of my days go unused. My reasons included not being able to delegate and thinking that I was the only person that could get the job done. And boy was I wrong. Some choose to store vacation days for future use. Others cash in and go with the money route instead of taking the days. While others say they can’t afford to take vacations or aren’t the planning and scheduling type. And a smaller percentage say they find the office and powers that be look at taking vacation days in a discouraging light.
Taking Vacation Days is Good for YOU
These days it doesn’t matter where you look or what you read all the studies say the same thing. Only about 75% of Americans actually take the paid vacation days they are allowed. And of those a large percentage don’t entirely disconnect and relax. Findings say that an employee that regularly takes vacation days are harder workers that come back to the office recharged. In general they are healthier and happier, more creative and positive, more productive and focused after they take vacation days.
Since I have come to understand that I am not the only one who can get the job done. And I have learned to delegate I am so on board with taking vacation days. I still scratch my head and ask why oh why. We have all earned our vacations days so why not take them. While your employer may appreciate all your hard work and dedication. Your health certainly does not. Men that don’t regularly take vacations days increase their chance of a heart attack by 50%. And woman, don’t get me started on us. For those of us that don’t regularly take all our vacation days can result in an increase of heart disease and depression. You definitely deserve your vacation days so in the name of good health take those days!
These days it seems it’s all about working and hard. And the stats show that just over 30% of us don’t even consider taking the time we work so hard for. Vacation days don’t last forever. They definitely have an end date. So whether you plan a trip or a stay-home vacation this summer get out there and enjoy some very deserving days off.
