For so many of us July 4th marks the start of summer. And when you think summer fun, for me, the first thing that pops into my mind is July 4th, the celebration and yes the parties. July 4th is a great time to see friends and family and enjoy all that summer weather and fun has to offer.

Celebrating July 4th is all about the red, white and blue and being patriotic. The days of fireworks, flags, BBQs, beaches, yummy food and drinks are here. So grab your people and celebrate America’s birthday. And the July 4th, 1776 passing of the Declaration of Independence.

July 4th Independence Day is fast approaching. So to get into celebrating America’s birthday here are some fun facts about this country.

• The Declaration of Independence was signed by 56 men from 13 colonies.
• Independence Day was first celebrated on July 8th, 1776 in Philadelphia.
• The flag was embraced on June 14th, 1777.
• In 1941 July 4th became a national holiday.
• The youngest signer of the Declaration of Independence was Thomas Lynch, Jr. at 27. The oldest signer was Benjamin Franklin at 70.
• The only person to sign the Declaration of Independence on July 4th was John Hancock.
• Since the signing of the Declaration of Independence, three US presidents have passed on July 4th. John Adams and Thomas Jefferson expired on July 4th, 1826. And James Monroe died July 4th, 1831.
• In 1801 the first July 4th party was hosted at the White House.
• Over 75 million Americans are planning a BBQ on this Independence Day. Americans will consume over 700 million pounds of chicken and over 150 million hot dogs.
• July 4th is a big day for fireworks. While they were invented in China. We import over $250 million in fireworks.
• On July 4th, 1776 there were an estimated 2.5 million people residing in the Unites States (presently there are over 309 million).
• There are eleven locals in the United States with the word “Independence” in their name. And nine with the word “freedom” in their name.
• At first, the stars on the flag were set in a circle. Symbolizing that all the colonies are equal.
• Born in 1872 Calvin Coolidge is the one and only US president born on July 4th.
• Over 41 million Americans will spend the holiday at someone else’s home.
