We’ve all been there on dull and time consuming conference calls. It seems most of us do agree on the subject of conference calls and you guessed it, we’re not fans. I totally get it, these days when time is of the essence and with an eye on the bottom line. Conference calls are a useful part of our work routine. And yes they are a required part of getting business done. When it comes to conference calls it’s all about being productive and making good use of your time. While not a huge fan of conference calls, I do find them beneficial and useful. And I do use them all the time for meetings, roundtables, brainstorming and telephone interviews. And while I do find them to be a helpful tool. They can be wasteful and ineffective.

While conference calls are an excellent way to maximize time and money. For the end result to be successful it’s imperative to always be ready and organized. In addition there are some basic conference call tips that will help us all to maximize call time. First and foremost conference calls should always start and finish on time. Provide an agenda and ensure you follow it. If you set up the call be sure you dial in before anyone else. Background noise can be so distracting make sure you can be heard. In an effort to keep everyone’s attention ask for questions as well as feedback. Use your voice and whenever possible be brief. And finally proceed as if the meeting is face to face and everyone is there in person.
