In today’s economy it’s getting harder and harder to find any job let alone your dream job. Which begs the question – are there good careers in event planning still out there to get? Well it’s pretty safe to say that the event planning industry is not going away. Like many industries there are certain facets in the event planning industry where technology is replacing people. But at the same time, as technology progresses it often opens up new areas for job seekers. Today applying for careers in event planning is not as simple as sending resumes and then waiting for the calls. You may be waiting a long time. Here are a few suggestions on things that you can do that will help better your chances of landing your dream job.

Convention and Visitors Bureau’s (CVB) Offer Good Careers in Event Planning

CVB’s are a resource that meeting planners utilize often when planning meetings. Depending on the size of the market, CVB’s can have a decent sized staff. If you’re just starting off in the event planning industry a CVB is a great way of working your way up the ladder.

Event Planning Associations Are Great for Networking to Find Careers in Event Planning

There’s nothing better than networking with like-minded people to get a footing in the event planning industry. Many associations have local chapters in your area. Join these associations and volunteer your services for their events. You’ll develop great relationships make new contacts. All of which help when looking for careers in event planning.

On Line Jobsites Offer Current Listings for Careers in Event Planning

There are great online jobsites that allow you to refine your search so that you can look at only careers in event planning. Some even specialize in related industries. You do, however, have to be aware that there are probably dozens, if not hundreds, of other people looking at that same job. I’m not suggesting to utilize only online jobsites, however use this as an additional source to keep active. And because you’re not alone on that site the more unique your approach is, the more likely it becomes that you will be recognized. The idea here is to stand out amongst the crowd.

Finding good careers in event planning can certainly be a daunting task. You may even find that the first job you take may not necessarily be the dream job you’re looking for. But that job could be a stepping stone towards your ultimate career. Getting involved in the meetings and events industry by networking and volunteering is always a positive step towards getting your ideal job. Not to mention your own personal development.
