The debate rages on event planning degree – yeah or nay? You want to be an event planner but first you must be candid and honest with yourself. Take the time to research and ask the really important questions. “Why do I want to be an event planner?” “Is it because I think it is fun, fun, fun and I need a little fun in my life?” “Am I in need of a change, any change?” And the always favorite “I plan one great party a year so I already know what ‘m doing.”

There really is a lot to consider and a lot of questions to ask, and answer.

Event Planning Degree – The $64,000 Question…

It takes a lot to be an event planner; hard work, organization, attention to detail, creativity and the ability to think outside the box (just to name a few). But a nagging question that comes up time and again, the $64,000 question if you will, “Is an event planning degree required?”

Well I’m here to tell you, there is no easy yes or no answer. Every time you pose the question you will receive a different, and hopefully helpful, answer.

Event Planning Degree – What’s Up First?

But before you sign up for any courses there are a few things to consider. First and foremost evaluate your own capabilities. And you have to be totally honest with yourself. On the job responsibilities are challenging and demanding ones. It goes without saying that being good in business, able to negotiate and persuade are key qualities to possess. In addition to being organized, do you work well under pressure? Are you able and willing to work long unconventional hours? Are you capable of working with and staying on top of technology? And at the top of the list; are you a people person, able to be “on” at the drop of a hat and work with all sorts of people from all areas of life?

Actual hands-on experience has always been a key factor potential clients look for. Getting pertinent, practical knowledge and experience will help you in many ways. This practice will help you to know and decide if this is indeed the career you love and want to pursue. Plus, by obtaining the experience and knowledge, you begin the process of building your profile and portfolio (without even realizing it). And this helps in the long run when trying to land an event planning job or looking at starting your own business.

Event Planning Degree – Sign Me UP!

While formal education or training is not a prerequisite in the event planning world, truthfully it can and will only help. I graduated with a degree in business and never imagined a career as an event and meeting planner. But if I had really thought about it back then, I would have gone for an event planning degree. But (as I have learned time and again) we never really know where life is going to take us. Ensuring a portfolio and resume filled with skills, knowledge, training, education and experience will only elevate us in a career we choose and, hopefully, love.

Event planning degree courses will give you an importance and irreplaceable understanding of the event planning world. It will demonstrate and teach you what it takes to be a success. The courses will provide you all those solutions and answers to your unclear event planning questions. The courses are filled with experience and industry secrets and address everything event planning business from A to Z.

There’s a lot to think about when considering if an event planning degree, and the time investment required, is for you. Always do your research and discover the opportunities that are available and if they are what’s best for you and your situation. For some, a mentor and volunteering is the best education and use of their time. For others the perfect event planning course is the route to go. Check with industry professionals for some assistance in ensuring you choose the right and legitimate program for you.
