The latest and greatest American Express Meetings & Events 2015 Global Meetings Forecast is here. Just ask American Express and you will find the meetings industry is back. And first and foremost it states “meetings are expected to play a critical role in a return to business fundamentals in 2015”
Issa Jouaneh, Vice President and GM at American Express Meetings & Events, states “The meeting industry overall appears to be very much ‘back in business’, in particular as a key component of sales and marketing strategies for many organizations.” “The last few years have given focus to meetings and events in a way that has driven a more disciplined approach around approvals processes, increased scrutiny on spend and a larger focus around accountability and expected outcomes for meetings.”
The Meetings Industry Results According to American Express
And the results are in, following a wide-ranging internationally executed survey, American Express Meetings & Events has released the results. Built around detailed interviews with meeting planners, hotel suppliers and buyers and other meeting professionals as well as comprehensive meetings and events data. Some of the American Express Meetings & Events Global Meetings Forecast findings for 2015 may surprise you, while others not as much.
North American meeting industry results include a +0.3% growth in the number of meetings, +0.2% growth in number of attendees, the average meeting length is 2.3 days, +0.3% increase in meeting spend within organizations and a +4.6% rise in group hotel prices.
The top five meeting destinations in North America are Chicago, Orlando, Las Vegas, Atlanta and drum roll, San Diego. The top five meeting destinations in Europe are London, Paris, Barcelona, Amsterdam and Berlin.
When looking at the meeting types in the North American Market, the American Express Meetings & Events 2015 Global Meetings predicts an increase in; training by +0.9%, conferences/tradeshows by +0.1%, sales & marketing by +0.5%, advisory board by +0.5% and senior leadership meeting/board meeting by +0.7%. With the incentive/special events category is reported to see a decline by -0.2%. And the internal team meeting and product launch categories growth will remain flush.
