Today’s guest post is by Taylor J.M. Erdie. In her post, Taylor talks about what is was that made her decide to study event planning. A fearless leader, some would say scary brave, Taylor is a young, sophisticated, event planning student who never fails to make a bold statement. Equal parts style and melody, Taylor is driven to make your dreams come to life. Her moto: You will remember me.
I grew up in the small town of Chatham, Ontario. I was always very active in sports and focused on my school work. When it came time to graduate, I had no a clue in my mind of what I wanted to do. All throughout high school they tell you that you NEED to know. I wasn’t one of those people who knew. I was very much into math and sciences and planned to be a university bound students. I wanted to follow similar footsteps of my brother and mother and go into the health and wellness industry. That was what came easy for me, but I never had a passion for it. I always had my mother in my ear about what are good jobs to get into and what makes good money, but it felt like I was being persuaded to do something I didn’t even know if I wanted to do. When I graduated I had the intentions of going to college for a pharmacy technician diploma, and over time take additional schooling to become a pharmacist. Although I had this idea in mind, I wasn’t quite ready to leave home, so I took a year off to work and save money.
For Taylor, Event Planning Started with her Friends
I’ve always been a super organized individual (thanks Mom) and someone who people could rely on to get the job done. So when prom came around, I took control and planned my group of friend’s entire day. I did research on restaurants and limo companies, different places to take photos, contacted photographers, organized all the money, and even made an itinerary for our entire day. By the end of it, it was a complete success. That was the best feeling in the entire world, to see other people happy and having an amazing time, knowing that I was the one to make it all possible: I found my passion.
My best friend’s mother told me that I should get into event planning. I never knew such things really existed. She said “Taylor I could definitely see you being a wedding planner or something. I went to Humber years ago, it’s an amazing school and they have a great reputation. Check it out: they might have something there related to that”.
